Unplugged
A Women's Retreat in Montana for Finding Your Way Back to Yourself
Have you ever quietly thought, "I miss myself"?
Not the version of you who is always needed.
Not the version who is always answering, organizing, remembering, and taking care of everyone else.
The YOU underneath all of that.
The one who lingers over a good cup of tea.
The one who loses time in a book.
The one who notices the birds.
The one who has space to wonder, create, and simply be.
Unplugged is a women-only weekend retreat near Missoula, Montana, created for women who are craving something increasingly rare: quiet.
A place where nothing is asking you to perform, improve, or keep up.
No packed schedule.
No pressure to participate.
No expectation to become someone new.
Just five handcrafted cabins tucked into the Montana woods, slow mornings, forest trails, campfires, and the freedom to hang out in pajamas, dirty hair with an eye mask holding it up, mismatching socks, and zero notifications.
October 2–4, 2026
$550 for the entire weekend
Your own private cabin · 2 nights · up to 2 women
Come alone or bring someone you love. The price is the same.
Only 5 cabins · 10 women maximum
You don't need to find yourself. You need space to hear yourself again.
You need space.
Space to wake without an alarm.
Space to finish a cup of coffee while it's still hot.
Space to read three pages—or three chapters.
Space to hear birds instead of notifications.
Space where nobody needs anything from you.
For one weekend, the only thing on your schedule is whatever feels restorative.
Is this retreat for you?
It might be if...
✓ You feel mentally exhausted even after a full night's sleep.
✓ You're constantly "on."
✓ You spend most days caring for everyone except yourself.
✓ You're craving silence more than entertainment.
✓ Your summer was go-go-go, but your body is ready for a good night’s sleep
✓ You miss feeling creative.
✓ You want to reconnect with nature.
✓ You'd rather watch a campfire than your phone.
What makes this retreat different?
Most retreats promise transformation.
We don't.
We aren't here to reinvent you.
We're simply creating the conditions where you can finally exhale.
There are no workshops every hour.
No mandatory icebreakers.
No productivity disguised as self-care.
Just a beautiful place and the freedom to use it however you need.
What your weekend could look like
Instead of a rigid itinerary, imagine...
• waking naturally
• drinking coffee outside your cabin
• wandering forest trails
• journaling
• doing puzzles (we’ve got plenty)
• reading in a hammock (we have lots of books for you to borrow)
• taking a nap without guilt
• soaking in the hot tub beneath the pines
• watching the sunset
• sharing quiet conversation around the fire—or enjoying silence
Every activity is optional.
Including conversation.

What about phones?
We're called Unplugged for a reason.
But we don't collect phones.
There are no digital detox police.
Instead, we simply invite you to notice what happens when there isn't much competing for your attention.
Most guests naturally spend less time scrolling.
Some leave their phones in their cabin all weekend.
Others don't.
Both are perfectly welcome.
We built the retreat we wished existed.
After spending years in the always-on world of university teaching, we longed for a quieter way of living.
Over sixteen summers, we hand-built five cabins on a forested piece of Montana land.
Today, we share that place with guests seeking something increasingly rare:
Silence.
We won't try to change your life.
We'll simply welcome you into ours for a weekend.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Absolutely—and we expect many women will.
Most guests arrive without knowing anyone else. Some spend most of the weekend in quiet solitude, while others naturally connect over coffee, around the fire, on a walk in the woods, or during an evening gathering.
There is no expectation either way.
-
No.
This retreat is intentionally light on programming.
Everything is optional, including evening gatherings. If you'd rather spend the evening reading in your cabin or walking the trails, that's exactly what this weekend is for.
-
Not in the traditional sense.
Conversation is welcome, but never expected.
We don't enforce silence or ask anyone to avoid speaking. Instead, we've created an environment where quiet naturally becomes part of the experience.
Many guests discover they talk less—not because they have to, but because they finally don't feel the need to fill every moment.
-
You'll fit right in.
In fact, many people are drawn to Unplugged because they enjoy quiet spaces and slower mornings.
There is plenty of room to be alone without feeling isolated.
-
You're welcome here too.
This isn't about avoiding people—it's about removing pressure.
Meaningful conversations often happen naturally around a campfire or while making coffee, but no one is expected to socialize.
-
Absolutely.
If you'd like to share the experience with a sister, mother, daughter, or close friend, you're welcome to share one of our cabins.
The price is per cabin, not per person.
-
Yes.
The Hohnstead is proudly pet-friendly, and there is no additional pet fee for retreat guests.
We simply ask that dogs be well behaved and respectful of the peaceful environment for everyone.
-
Each morning we'll provide fresh local coffee, tea, pastries, and fruit.
For lunch and dinner, you'll have access to our fully equipped community kitchen where you can prepare your own meals.
We'll also send you our favorite grocery stores and local markets near Missoula before your arrival.
-
Not in the traditional sense.
There are no fitness classes.
No lectures.
No coaching sessions.
No pressure to become a better version of yourself.
We simply provide a beautiful place where you can slow down, rest, and spend time in nature.
Sometimes that's enough.
-
Not at all.
You can spend the entire weekend without leaving your cabin if that's what you need.
Our property has gentle walking trails, comfortable places to sit, mountain views, and plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy being outside.
-
We'll send a detailed packing list before your stay.
Think cozy layers, comfortable shoes, a favorite book, a journal if you enjoy writing, and anything that helps you feel at home.
-
Because we intentionally keep this retreat small.
With only five cabins and a maximum of ten guests, the weekend remains peaceful, spacious, and personal.
There are no crowds, long lines, or packed schedules—just room to breathe.
-
That's perfectly okay.
One of the beautiful things about Unplugged is that no explanation is necessary.
You don't have to justify needing time alone.
Quiet is respected here.
-
Unplugged probably isn't the right fit.
If you're hoping for a retreat filled with workshops, speakers, yoga sessions, or a detailed itinerary, you may be happier elsewhere.
We believe the greatest gift we can offer is something increasingly rare:
Nothing is expected of you.
-
You're not alone.
Many women tell us this is the hardest part—not booking the retreat, but believing they're allowed to step away for a couple of days.
We don't believe rest is something you have to earn.
Sometimes the people who care for everyone else need someone to hold space for them.
For one weekend, let the forest do that.
Maybe this is the sign you've been waiting for.
You don't have to earn rest.
You don't have to be completely burned out before taking a break.
You don't have to become a different person this weekend.
You simply have to arrive.
We'll take care of the quiet.
When five cabins are gone, they are gone!
