The Stargazer | Open-Air Glamping Cabin near Missoula
The Soul of the Cabin
Fall asleep beneath the stars, wake up to birdsong, and watch the forest come alive from the comfort of your bed.
The Stargazer was built for guests who want to experience nature as closely as possible without giving up the comfort of a cozy cabin. At the heart of this hand-built retreat is our signature button-operated wall, which opens your entire bedside to the forest, mountain air, and Montana night sky.
When the wall is open, the boundary between indoors and outdoors disappears. Spend the evening watching the stars emerge overhead, listen to the wind moving through the pines, and wake with the first light filtering through the trees.
For many guests, The Stargazer isn't just a cabin—it's the closest they've ever felt to sleeping in the forest.

Our Guest reviews
Perfect little getaway!
My husband, dog, and I stayed at the Hohnstead Stargazer Cabin & Compound over Memorial Day weekend and had such an incredible experience that I wish I could give more than 5 stars!

“Amazing getaway in the mountains ”
This is our second time here and will not be our last! It was so wonderful to open up the wall in the stargazer to take in the scenery with coffee first thing in the morning. Alla and Garrett are both wonderful hosts and the Hohnstead is perfectly situated where you feel you are remote for a mountain escape but close enough to grocery stores, concert venue, and a hop and a skip away from Bob Marshall wilderness complex and Glacier NP. We are already planning our next trip!

I happened upon The Hohnstead by chance while doing an internet search for stargazing retreats and I am so very glad I found them!! My visit turned out to be one of the most relaxing and peaceful mini vacations I have ever been on.
