Built Slowly over time
More than fifteen years ago, The Hohnstead began as off-grid forest land outside Missoula.
We built each cabin ourselves, board by board, with lots of windows and polycarbonate walls (for stargazers). Before all of this, we were university teachers living in South Korea with zero construction skills or plans to change careers.
What began as off-grid land became a place where people — and their pets — could slow down together.

This is a magical, well thought out place to stay. I loved the hostel vibes. We were are large group who booked out the whole place for a birthday celebration. The best part was our pack of 6 dogs who happily roamed the acres of beautiful land that surrounded us. I plan to come back maybe next time for a romantic getaway. Highly recommend staying here!

My girlfriend and I have never gotten choked up saying goodbye to Airbnb hosts until we rolled down the driveway of The Hohnstead this morning. It felt like we were leaving summer camp because The Hohnstead is not a destination, it's an experience. Garrett and Alla invest a lot of themselves in making sure the guests have a great experience on and off their property. Everyday was a new adventure for us.
