Now Accepting 2026 applications -

(For Missoula-area Creatives)

Once a year we offer one local creative a complimentary one-night stay in a cabin at The Hohnstead.

No exchange.
No required posts.
No expectations beyond being here.

This fellowship is for an artist, writer, musician, photographer, or maker in the Missoula, Montana area who needs quiet — space to unplug, reset, and reconnect with their work in a slower way.

It’s not about producing something while you’re here.
It’s about remembering why you create at all.

Walk the forest.
Sit on the porch.
Let the land do what it does.

If you feel moved to share what shifted afterward, we’d love to hear.
But that part is entirely yours.

The Hohnstead was great! Stayed in an adorable cabin that was just secluded enough to feel like my own little world, but still with accessible amenities—water, shower, etc. Garrett and Alla were so nice! I’ve already recommended this place to friends and would definitely go back for a reset in the woods

Me, my husband and our dog had such a lovely time at the Hohnstead! Not tooo far away from town but far away enough for a little getaway! We LOVED that the property was dog friendly and our pup had the best time roaming around our cabin in the woods. We were celebrating our 8 year anniversary and had the best time. We loved being able to use the communal kitchen to cook our dinner and store our food, but still having the amentities of coffee and a butane stovetop in the cabin. You can tell the hosts put SO SO much thought into making sure their guests are taken care of. The hot tub was also a plus (: We will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends!

I had the pleasure of receiving a complimentary stay at The Hohnstead via their Artist Fellowship. I teach yoga and assorted unconventional acrobatic fitness in Missoula, Montana. Garrett & Alla created space for me to bring up my equipment and practice my art in the beauty and tranquility of The Hohnstead. Garrett and Alla were SO accommodating and they've truly thought of everything. I spent my time at The Hohnstead with my partner and our two dogs, we stayed in the A-Frame cabin. I found myself constantly saying, "it's so cute!!" We were lucky enough to have no one signed up for the hot tub after us, so we spent about 2 hours saying "this would have been the most epic spot to watch the Aurora!" and "this is SO nice!" while relaxing in the most beautifully secluded hot top spot I've ever experienced.
I highly recommend The Hohnstead - be sure to check out the scavenger hunt, Garrett's home-brew, the hummingbirds from the Commons Area, and the hot tub!
If you have dogs, this will be the vacation of their dreams! It's also worth mentioning, if you are a cannabis user, they are 420 friendly. The A-Frame was an exceptional setting for rolling joints under the stars.
Can't wait for our next stay!
