Best Time to Visit Western Montana (Month-by-Month Guide)
Hello, adventure seekers! Let’s talk about Western Montana. Specifically, the glorious Missoula area. You've been dreaming of mountain air, pine trees, and a glass of wine on a cabin deck. We get it. That’s why we built our glamping cabins right in the heart of this stunning wilderness.
But now comes the big question: When should I visit?
Since we are open from April through October, we’ve seen the woods in every "mood." But Western Montana is a year-round playground! Even when we’re closed for the winter, the Missoula area is hopping with activity. Whether you want to catch a riverside concert or find the perfect ice-fishing hole, here is your complete month-by-month guide.
The Reawakening: April
The Vibe: Quiet and muddy! This is for the true nature lover who wants to see the forest floor coming back to life.
Why Visit: It’s the ultimate "solitude" month. While we’re busy getting the cabins shiny and ready for you, Missoula is hosting the International Wildlife Film Festival.
The Glamping Factor: We open our doors this month! It’s crisp and peaceful—perfect for those who want the woods all to themselves.
The Transition: May
The Vibe: Energetic and unpredictable.
The "Montana Surprise": Don't be shocked if you see a dusting of snow! It usually melts by lunch, leaving everything smelling like fresh pine.
The Highlight: Concert season kicks off! The KettleHouse Amphitheater—one of the coolest outdoor venues in the country—usually starts rolling out big shows in late May. There is nothing like seeing a concert right on the banks of the Blackfoot River.

The Main Event:Wildflowers! This is the month when the hillsides truly explode with Arrowleaf Balsamroot (the big yellow ones) and purple Lupine.
The Sweet Spot: The days are stretching out, the rivers are rushing, and the summer crowds haven't fully arrived yet.

Summer Glory: July & August
The Vibe: Pure, unadulterated sunshine and "River Float" energy.
Why You’ll Love It: The sun doesn't set until nearly 10 PM. Spend your days hiking to high-alpine lakes or floating the Clark Fork River in a tube. Missoula is buzzing with farmers' markets and outdoor patios.
Pro Tip: Book early! These are our most popular months for a reason.

The Grand Finale: October
The Vibe: Cozy, colorful, and peak "flannel weather."
The Showstopper: The Larch trees. These special evergreens turn a brilliant, glowing gold before dropping their needles. The forest looks like it’s been dipped in honey.

The Winter Wonderland: November – March
While our cabins are tucked away for a winter nap during these months, Western Montana certainly isn't! If you're visiting the area in the "off-season," there is a ton to do:
Skiing & Snowboarding:Montana Snowbowl is just minutes from Missoula, offering legendary steep runs and a classic pizza shop at the base. For a family day trip, Discovery Basin or Lost Trail are local favorites.
Cross-Country Skiing: Hit the groomed trails at Pattee Canyon or the UM Golf Course. If you want a real adventure, head to Seeley Lake for miles of world-class Nordic trails.
Ice Fishing: When the lakes freeze over, the "hard water" anglers head to Georgetown Lake or Salmon Lake. It’s a Montana tradition—just bring a warm thermos!
Hot Springs: Winter is the best time for a soak. Jerry Johnson Hot Springs or Quinn’s are the perfect remedy for a day in the cold.
